PROJECT NO.1 (1985-1989)

Anti Narcotics Welfare Organization helped those students whom were involved in drug addiction. These students were admitted in various hospitals of Karachi where they were treated and got drug free. Proper counseling was also provided to them to get rid of their drug addiction. Besides, counseling was also made available to those who were alcoholics to help them to get of their problem.
In collaboration with the teachers of the dept. of Social Work, Karachi University several workshops, seminars and symposia were organized on various pertinent topics, which were attended by students, teachers and other eminent persons, who actively participated and presented their papers. Such activities were the major activities and were appreciated by all concerns. In collaboration with the teachers of Social Work Dept, Karachi University workshops Seminars and training programs were arranged, which were the major parts of activities. Such programs were highly successful and appreciated by all concerned.

At this point it was felt that there was the need for some sort of advisory committee to streamline the activities of ANWO. Therefore, experts like psychologists and social welfare workers were consulted and finally it was decided to hold a seminar to create the awareness about the drug addiction and to consider ways and means to eradicate the abuse through expert professional approach. Consequently a seminar was held on December 1988, on the issue which was participated by experts like doctors, professors, psychologist and social workers. In the light of the recommendations of such seminars, campaigns were started against the drug abuse.

 

OUR SPECIAL SYMPOSIA ON NARCOTICS

On November 7, 1988 we held a symposium under that organization in which the guests / speakers invited as follows:

The guest delivered speech regarding narcotics had done many jobs towards the eradication of narcotics.

In the symposium held of December 1988, we invited following guests / speakers:

PROJECT-II (1990-1996)

In 1990 the efforts of the students welfare Organization had taken shape and the need was felt to set up the work on sound and organized lines. Therefore, in 1990 formally the ANWO was set up, with experts in the field. The A.N.W.O had on its committee teachers, social workers and others in the field and had set up an infrastructure for e systematic activities of ANWO. The activities now started at city level and public awareness campaigns were started to spread awareness about the drug abuse. In order to encourage b ad based participation, a prize distribution ceremony was ,organized to encourage those workers who had been doing work for A.N.W.O and to attract more young people to work voluntarily for the promotion of our activities against the drug abuse. The prize distribution ceremony was successful in spreading the message of working for the eradication of drug abuse. The prizes were awarded to those who worked for the cause of eradication for drug abuse. The campaigns for the eradication of drug abuse were organized. The idea was to let people at all levels to know the disaster of drugs at all levels and by the people of all walks of life. Such campaigns were quite successful in spreading the message of drug abuse and need to eradicate this menace. As part of this campaign, Heads of various governments and non-governments, departments were motivated to participate in our campaign.

In October 1991 ANWO organized its Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony in Sheraton Hotel. We imparted them gold medals and shields who had gone some outstanding work to hamper the spreading of narcotics to the people in order to encourage them. Invited particularly those people or patients who had been rehabilitated through the efforts of this organization.

To whom Shields and Gold Medals were given are as follows:-

7. Mr. Zafar Iqbal, Custom Collector.

There were many others whom the shields were awarded in order to instigate them to do work against that curse.

PROJECT NO.3 (1997)

Target-Labor Class:

Labor class is the hub of industrial development. Among the labor class, however, the prevalence of narcotic is quite common. ANWO, therefore, contacted the launched a program to give awareness to the labor community. The results were quite successful and very encouraging.

PROJECT NO.4 (1998)

Target-print and Electronics Media:

The ANWO felt that in order to create better and effective awareness, media should also be involved. Therefore, ANWO organized a seminar on this issue, which was attended by eminent media people, and it got wide coverage by the print media and electronic media equally well. Henceforth the media effectively cooperated.

PROJECT NO.5 (1999)

Target- Illicit Trafficking of Narcotics:

ANWO realizes that the smuggling of drugs should be stopped, as far as possible through strict control by the Anti Narcotic Force operating in the country. Therefore ANWO cooperated with the ANF and in their collaboration organized a seminar on the International Narcotic day on this issue. The deliberation of the seminar was quite successful in projecting the need of strict control over the smuggling of the drug by Government and voluntary agencies.

On the occasion of the International Anti-Narcotic Day, 26 th June 1999 . Symposium was arranged in collaboration with ICN the News International on the menace of Drug.

PROJECT NO.6 (2000)

Target- Show biz Artists:

ANWO acknowledge the contradiction of the media, particularly the role of Show biz in the control of narcotics. Advertising agencies as well as print media also can play very significant role in this regard.

ANWO, therefore, launched a program of contacting the TV and advertising artists and media people to participate in the ANWO programs for time to time. Little kids when watch their favorite artists, they not only get pleased but also try to act like them and idealize them. The ANWO, therefore, started the program of contacting the Show biz artists in this regard was also held on the International Drug Day, on 26th June, 2000, on the role of show biz Artists which' was participated by following eminent artists of the Show biz:
